About EH Active
The idea for EH Active comes from Charlie Bresler, who is an avid exerciser and an avid philanthropist. EH stands for Effective Hedonism ("Time Magazine Article") which embraces the idea that people experience great pleasure and satisfaction when they use some of their time and money to help others. Our goal is to create an international community that emphasizes exercise as a pillar of one's own wellbeing and at the same time aims to help improve the wellbeing of people living in extreme poverty.
We will support our own and each others' exercise using a phone app called Be Well, which automatically tracks walking or running steps through your phone (iPhone or Android) health app. For other forms of exercise, like cycling, yoga, swimming, etc., the app has a simple way of converting minutes of exercise into steps. Through the app our community of members will also be able to support each other in their exercise and philanthropy goals.
EH Active's philanthropy goal is to each month have participants and outside donors support a different nonprofit, chosen from the list of the organization The Life You Can Save. The Life You Can Save, founded in 2012 by Charlie Bresler and Peter Singer, a world famous philosopher/ethicist and author of the book The Life You Can Save (free celebrity-read audiobook ), promotes nonprofits which, based on rigorous evidence-driven research, have been found to be highly impactful and cost-effective in improving the lives of people living in poverty in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
