Who would have guessed that a family vacation in Hawaii would have led to a life-altering experience? While doing the normal things people do on vacation, I came across and read Peter Singer’s, The Life You Can Save. Peter’s message moved me from mere contemplation to action. I contacted Peter, whom I did not know, and asked if I could help form a nonprofit to raise money for charities that help people living in extreme poverty.

I am not the only person who the book impacted. The message in the book and Peter’s previous essay he wrote while a graduate student at Oxford, “Famine, Affluence and Morality,”  have moved people to donate 100’s of millions of dollars (if not billions) to organizations helping to save and improve lives of people living in extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

I hope the book, which you can download from The Life You Can Save’s website, will be inspirational for you too.

The Girl in the Pond

This iconic video has moved many people, including Diana and me, to donate to help alleviate extreme poverty in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. I hope you will watch it and ask yourself if you are using your financial resources in the best possible way? I ask myself this almost everyday. And sometimes I choose to use our resources in a less than effective way, but I hope to make better decisions some of the time.

Perhaps you can share the video with family, friends, and your wider community. At a time when we feel powerless to change the course of world events that seem to be spinning out of control, we can still save the girl in the pond by giving to these high impact, cost effective nonprofits.

Thanks for viewing….

You Don’t Have to be Brave to Save Lives

One day I was at an actor friend ‘s home in LA filming a fundraising video when I decided to record something else I’d been thinking about for a very long time. The clip we are sharing here highlights the idea. I hope you enjoy and are, perhaps, inspired by it.
